It takes only a few minutes and no tools required. In this article we are discussing the immobilizer (ECU) programming of the standard or remote transponder key but not the remote functions themselves. Programming the remote requires additional steps <a href=\"http:\/\/tlcfaq.com\/main\/2013\/07\/remote-key-programming\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">covered here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The PNC system no longer shows a Master key for the pre 2003 Land Cruiser, but it&#8217;s the same blank for earlier models.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Standard Keys:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Master Key P\/N: 89785-26020<br \/>\nValet Key P\/N:\u00a089786-60050<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Remote Key incl. Transmitter:<\/strong><br \/>\n1998.01 &#8211; 2002.08 = 89070-60090<br \/>\n2002.08 &#8211; 2005.05 =\u00a089070-60750<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The system respects up to 5 Master and 3 Valet keys. If the programming sequences dont work for you there may be too many keys programmed. To determine the key type you have do the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Locate and Observe the Security light in the center stack of the dash board. The Security light should be blinking. Now insert your key into the ignition,\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Do Not Turn!<\/span>,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0simultaneously\u00a0observe the Security light, 3 results are possible:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Security light continues to blink = The key is not recognized<\/li>\n<li>Security light stays on for 2-3 seconds = Valet key<\/li>\n<li>Security light goes off\u00a0immediately\u00a0= Master key<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When doing any of these operations timing is critical &#8211; use a watch if you have no sense of time. :)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program a New Key (1999-2002):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.<\/li>\n<li>Insert your existing master key into the ignition.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Do Not Turn!<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.<\/li>\n<li>Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.<\/li>\n<li>Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.<\/li>\n<li>Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.<\/li>\n<li>After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.<\/li>\n<li>Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Program a New Key (2003+):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.<\/li>\n<li>Insert your existing master key into the ignition. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Do Not Turn!<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.<\/li>\n<li>Within 20 seconds open and close the \u201cdriver side\u201d door 6 times and remove key.<\/li>\n<li>Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.<\/li>\n<li>Turn the\u00a0ignition cylinder\u00a0ON and leave on for two minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Turn\u00a0ignition cylinder\u00a0OFF and remove new key<\/li>\n<li>Open and close the \u201cdriver side\u201d door 1 time.<\/li>\n<li>After 60 seconds new key is registered and Security light goes off.<\/li>\n<li>Depress and release brake pedal 1 time to terminate programming.<\/li>\n<li>Insert new key and observe security light goes out.<\/li>\n<li>Start you Land Cruiser to confirm operation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>To delete all but one Master key from the ECU (1998-2002):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.<\/li>\n<li>Insert an existing master key into the\u00a0ignition cylinder.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Do Not Turn!<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Within 15 seconds of inserting the key, depress and release the accelerator pedal 6 times.<\/li>\n<li>Within 20 seconds of completing the above step, depress and release the brake pedal 7 times.<\/li>\n<li>The Security light will flash, indicating all keys other than the one being used have been deleted.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the key from the\u00a0ignition cylinder\u00a0within 10 seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Alternate Method to delete all but one Master Key from ECU (2003+):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Insert Master Key and Cycle ignition 6 times (Lock to on then back to lock)<\/li>\n<li>Within 35 seconds open and close Drivers side door 7 (seven) times.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the key from the\u00a0ignition cylinder\u00a0within ten seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Article by: RobRed Applicable Models:\u00a01998 &#8211; 2007 \/ 100 Series\u00a0Land Cruiser Tools Needed: Your feet and hands Programming your own key instead of the dealer charging you $100 is well\u00a0worth\u00a0the time.
