It didn’t matter if the motor was cold or had been running for hours… tick tick tick. Not only annoying but certainly not great for the motor. Lexi4Darin had been getting his tick on the cold morning’s and would subside after a bit. We were both interested in the additional performance benefits as well and pre and post install dyno testing. See Pre Test and Post Test.

For installation we really took our time… breaks, lunch etc. We wanted to understand the best practices for doing this so we could pass it on. We intended to do a step-by-step write for this but conceptually it’s actually simple. What makes this install difficult isn’t the techniques but rather the limiting space in the engine bay to access the manifold stud nuts. The passenger side manifold is straight forward however the driver side you need to have every kind of 14mm wrench and socket you can find to hit all the angles on the DS stud nuts – It’s crazy. If one has AHC getting around the hydraulic lines lines is treacherous.

My truck was first and took about 13 hours…figuring things out etc. Darin’s LX470 took about the same but that was because some of the things we learned on my truck were hampered by the AHC being in the way on the DS. I could do it now in about 8 hours on an Land Cruiser as there would be no experimenting different techniques – I’d go right to it.
