Changing your head unit to an aftermarket unit is not as straight forward as older 100 series vehicles. The 2003+ models have a molded dash bezel as part of the factory head unit. You will need to source a replacement (aftermarket) bezel and radio brackets. Additionally the “eyebrow” display (time and temp) above the factory head unit is integrated into the factory trim bezel and will need to be transfered to the new aftermarket bezel.
Land Cruiser (2003+) will accept a standard double DIN head unit with an aftermarket bezel and brackets. If your 100 series has a factory navigation system then this information is not for you. Though NAV and non-NAV trucks have the same audio connections, this conversion only applies if you have a standard, non-navigation head unit from the factory.
Before you begin any modification to your vehicle you should fully understand what you are doing and make sure you have the skills to complete the job. Land Cruiser notes:
- Unlike earlier 100 series, Toyota has only one loop-through connection from the amplifier, Ground. So if you use the factory connections in the upper dash and you are changing out the amplifier you will need to tie a ground wire to pin 20 of the main radio connector (R36) or use a separate ground from your new radio (recommended).
- It’s also worth noting that the 2003+ model years share the same connector pin configuration as earlier models, so you could use available aftermarket wire harnesses to connect a new head unit.
