Applicable Models: 1998 – 2007 / 100 Series Land Cruiser or Lx 470

Tools Needed: Pitman Arm Puller (KD Tools 2289) , 2″ wide x 6′ Ratchet Strap, 18″ Bungee cord, Snap Ring Pliers, cutting Pliers, Flat Blade Screwdriver, 3/8″ Ratchet Drive, 1/2″ Ratchet Drive, 3/8″ 10mm Socket, 3/8″ 12mm Socket, 1/2″ 17mm Socket, 1/2″ 19mm Socket, 1/2″ 22mm Socket, 1/2″ 24mm socket, 1/2″ drive Torque Wrench (capable of up to 120 ft-lbs), 18″ Pry Bar, 1.25″ x 9-12″ Brass Drift, (BFH) 2lb Hammer, 2′-3′ of scrap 2×2 lumber (optional), Floor Jack and Jack Stands [Air Tools Recommended for Speed and ease of effort]

Parts Needed: 2 Cotter pins (per axle), Full Set of Axle Snap Rings (Hub Side), Axle Grease Cap , New CV Axle(s) 43430-60040, (New) Differential side snap rings if using refurbished axles 90521-34003

assy Diagram This procedure was done on my MY 2000 100 Series Land Cruiser – You should always consult the specific instructions for your model and year. If you need to do a front brake refresh this is a great time to do it while you are replacing axles. I also recommend doing this with a friend, some of these components are quite heavy. If you are going to do a brake refresh along with this procedure I recommend you remove the brake rotor first (not covered in this write up). This makes the hub much lighter and easier to work with. Additionally consider replacing front differential oil seals if yours are leaky, axles out is the only way to do it. Overall this procedure is quite straight forward and can be done in your driveway in a 3-4 hours (both axles). Make sure you have the parts on hand to complete the job. I’ve noticed Toyota seems to need to special order many of the snap ring sizes.
