Our own 2000UZJ skyped me with a problem he was having… He has a Mule Expo Roof Rack that is a tad on the longer side and has more than one time accidentally opened the sun roof “tilt-up” mode crashing the sun roof into the bottom of the rack.

He wanted a simple modification to prevent this from happening. By removing one wire from the sun roof switch connector we disable the tilt-up feature but keep tilt-down and slide open/close. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Remove the overhead console box
  2. Locate the Sun Roof switch and disconnect the wire harness
  3. Locate pin 1, red-yellow wire (R-Y) and remove using the wire pick or small flat screwdriver
  4. Insulate the newly removed pin terminal with 3m Super33+ and tuck it away
  5. Reconnect the Sun Roof switch connector to the Sun Roof switch
  6. Test functionality; insert your key in the ignition and test the switch functions. Everything but tilt up should work.
  7. Reattach your console box to the roof and enjoy.
